Salesian biology lab overhaul a 'boost for STEM curriculum'

Students returning to Salesian College Preparatory this fall will benefit from a complete overhaul of the school’s biology lab thanks to a $250,000 grant from an anonymous donor.

Improvements include new flooring, a prep room with storage cabinets, sink and lab refrigerator, high-efficiency lighting, new wood and glass cabinetry and new desks and chairs, the school said in its magazine (the images included in this story were first published in the magazine.).

“The renovations will provide for different classroom layouts — lecture, small groups, and lab — and allow for more collaborative learning and higher student engagement,” the school said.

The school will next look to raise funds to modernize its chemistry and physics labs.

All of this is a response to the growing need in the U.S. workforce for students proficient in STEM (science, technology, engineering and math) subjects.
