A 29-year-old transient was arrested in connection with at least two burglaries in El Cerrito on Tuesday, police said.

Joshua Marshall was booked in connection with burglaries in the 1600 block of Julian Drive and on Contra Costa Drive.

Police initially responded to a burglary alarm activation at the Julian Drive home about 4:30 p.m., where they found a door had been broken, police said. About 40 minutes later, a suspicious person was reported in the backyard of a home on Contra Costa Drive, who was reportedly looking into other backyards. The man was described as a black man with blonde hair, a thin build and wearing a blue shirt and dark pants, police said.

The suspect was shortly after spotted in the 1400 block of Navellier Street, and a search of his bags revealed laptops and credit cards belonging to the victim of the burglary on Julian Drive, police said. In addition to lying about his identity, police found him in possession of items from a home on Contra Costa Drive.

He was transported to the county jail in Martinez.
