The Off the Grid food truck market in El Cerrito will remain at its Fairmount Avenue location after the city’s planning commission unanimously approved a five-year permit, city staff told us Tuesday.

Off the Grid operates Wednesday evenings from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m. on Fairmount between Carlson Boulevard and San Pablo Avenue.

The market has been operating at that location for the last two years. While in the first year there were complaints about its impact on parking, traffic and local businesses, city staff said steps to resolve the issues led to no complaints last year.

Other merchants have reported increased business due to Off the Grid. They say visitors “decided they wanted a place to sit down and eat a meal before or after the event,” staff said.

The Contra Costa Times interviewed the manager of Rubio’s Fresh Mexican restaurant who said his business has seen an increase of customers because Off the Grid brings more people to the area.
