HelloFresh Inc., a growing recipes and ingredients delivery startup, plans to relocate 50 employees to the large warehouse digs it just leased in Richmond and add an additional 50 jobs, Mayor Tom Butt has reported.

We told you Friday about how New York City-based HelloFresh Inc. has leased the 109,594-square-foot freezer storage warehouse at 2041 Factory St. in Richmond.

On Tuesday, Mayor Butt reported the deal in his e-forum. It was the second largest Richmond lease deal during the second quarter, the mayor said. In May, Williams-Sonoma signed a lease to take over 250,000 square-feet of warehouse-distribution at Point Pinole Business Park.

In his report, Butt included another tidbit we didn’t know Friday: That HelloFresh plans to relocate 50 employees and hire 50 more. Butt says to expect job openings “soon.” We will keep an eye out for postings and report back.

The company was founded in 2011 by Patrick Drake, the Goldman Sachs attorney-turned-chef, and former consultant Ed Boyes. The two were “drawn to the property because of its close access to Interstate 580 and the building’s existing equipment including forklifts, freezers and coolers, which enables it to begin operations within 90 days,” according to the San Francisco Business Times, citing a statement from the landlord’s representatives at Avison Young.

The new lease is the latest in a boom of food businesses in Richmond that includes Blue Apron, a New York-based meal delivery service that recently opened a fulfillment center here.
