The man who was found deceased by firefighters as they extinguished a car fire in Richmond Thursday afternoon has been identified by the county coroner as Mario Lee, 60, of Richmond, police said.

Lee’s death has been deemed a suicide.

“After follow-up investigation was conducted and video surveillance of the area was viewed, it was determined the person inside the vehicle had intentionally set the car on fire from the interior of the car,” Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

The fire was reported about 12:30 p.m. in the 200 block of West Nevin Avenue, Abetkov said.

As firefighters began to extinguish the blaze, they noticed the body of a man in the back seat.
