Mark Thomas Kelly was arrested on Independence Day after police say he admitted to burning down the East Richmond Heights home where he had been living, according to Bay City News (BCN).

The incident occurred about 3 p.m. Saturday in the 6400 block of Hazel Avenue, when fire crews rushed into a smoke-ravaged house to locate possibly trapped occupants. They believed at least one person might be inside the burning home, but the occupant, an elderly woman, was later located outside the home, fire officials told BCN.

fire.7-7Firefighters prevented the blaze from extending to nearby homes. During the firefight, fire dispatch received a call from BART police, who said Kelly had walked into the El Cerrito del Norte BART station and admitted setting the house on fire.

Kelly was booked on suspicion of unlawfully and recklessly setting fire to an inhabited dwelling and his bail was set at $100,000, according to Bay City News.

Investigators have not stated why or how Kelly started the fire.
