Firefighters found a deceased man in the backseat of a car that was on fire in Richmond Thursday afternoon, police said.

The fire was reported about 12:30 p.m. in the 200 block of West Nevin Avenue, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

As firefighters began to extinguish the blaze, they noticed the body of a man. Detectives are working to determine the cause of the fire, Abetkov said.

The man hasn’t been identified, and police are investigating the death.

“We’re still trying to find out what happened,” Abetkov said.
