This thief apparently doesn’t like old bicycles.
A Richmond resident has sent us surveillance video footage of a man he claims has stolen bicycles from properties near the intersection of S. 45 and Wall streets.
In the video footage from May 28, a man is seen parking his bicycle in front of a home, entering a gate into the property, then moments later departing with a different bicycle, while leaving his old bicycle behind.
“A week later he did the same to my next door neighbor,” the resident told us. “He did the same move; he left an old bike in front of my neighbor’s house and took a new bike that was in the backyard. Please be aware of this guy. I’m not worried about the bike but if we don’t do nothing to stop him who knows what’s going to be next.”
The resident, however, says he has not contacted police.
We spoke with Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov, who confirmed the incidents were not reported. Abetkov urged residents to report such crimes so that police can be in a position to catch thieves before they strike again. Thieves will almost certainly get away with crimes if police are not informed or provided critical evidence such as this video, she added.
Residents are encouraged to call police at (510) 233-1214 to report crimes or suspicious activity (calls can be anonymous).
