By Contra Costa County Supervisor John Gioia:
I’m proud to announce that after several years of community planning and a year of construction, we are celebrating the completion of the San Pablo Dam Road Walkability Project this week!
Come on down and see the new San Pablo Dam Road!
Completion of this Contra Costa County project will help make downtown El Sobrante a more pedestrian friendly town center. Residents, visitors and businesses will enjoy new and expanded sidewalks that are ADA accessible, new street trees, planters, bus benches and historical markers that will create an environment to encourage shopping and dining along San Pablo Dam Road. $2.3 million in local transportation sales tax and local road funds made these improvements possible.

The same stretch of roadway as of Tuesday morning
Over a dozen El Sobrante businesses have agreed to adopt a landscaping planter to brighten their entrances. The county provides the planter and landscaping while the business owner waters and cares for the plants.
This project is part of a larger effort to improve the business and walking environment in downtown El Sobrante.
