Richmond residents are in for a treat on Friday, July 3, when the Oakland Symphony descends on the Craneway Pavilion for a free concert and “Independence Eve” celebration complete with fireworks over the bay.
For the past seven years, the Oakland Symphony has joined forces with the City of Richmond to present an evening of fun for the whole family with live music, food and a fireworks show.
The celebration’s main event – a free concert provided by the Oakland Symphony – will be conducted by Michael Morgan and will feature Sousa marches, music from The Sound of Music and Frozen and other classic ensembles, including The Star Spangled Banner, Bernstein’s Candide Overture, selections from Gershwin’s Porgy & Bess and more.
The celebration will also feature the Oakland Symphony’s world premiere of “Texas Rising Suite,” a collection of short, musical pieces from the History Channel’s miniseries “Texas Rising,” which retells the Texan independence from Mexico in 1836.
Concert sponsors include the City of Richmond and Chevron. Mechanics Bank is a contributing sponsor and KDFC is the media sponsor.
The event will be held in the Craneway Pavilion, 1414 Harbour Way S. in Richmond, located inside the historic Ford Point building on the waterfront. Paid parking is available starting at 5 pm. Doors will open with a pre-show at 6:30 pm. The main concert followed by fireworks will begin at 8 pm.
The event is free and open to the public. For more information visit, www.craneway.com or http://www.oaklandsymphony.org/event/independence-eve-celebration/.
