We have reported in the past about several Richmond musicians who have released tribute songs for the Golden State Warriors’ magical playoff run.
On Thursday, we learned about a local artist who has hit the big time with his tribute.
Rich Cole, who was born and raised in Richmond, has teamed with the Warriors on the newly released tribute video, “Locked N Loaded (DubNation),” which will be played on the Jumbo Tron at Oracle Arena during the Finals, which begin tonight at 6 p.m.
Rich Cole (pictured below) told us that a Warriors employee dug his latest album and asked if he would make a tribute track for the team. During games, most likely starting with game two, a shortened version of the video will be played on the Jumbo Tron, the rapper says.
After approving Cole’s song, the Warriors shared a video on the team Facebook page. Within 24 hours, the video attracted more than 200,000 views and nearly 30,000 likes. The comments reacting to the video were positive, with pumped up fans cheering for their ‘Dubs.
“This SLAPS so hard,” one commoenter said. “Time to splashhhhhh.”
