A woman is fighting for her life in an intensive care unit after a shooting in Richmond early Sunday that also injured a man, police said.

At about 2 a.m., officers responded to multiple calls and ShotSpotter activations in the 5000 block of Hartnett Avenue and found a woman and man lying on the ground suffering from gunshot wounds, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

The victims, whose identities have not been released, were transported to local trauma centers. The man was listed in critical but stable condition and is expected to survive, Abetkov said. The woman, however, is listed in extremely critical and is currently being treated in the ICU, she said.

At this point, the only information police investigators have is that two vehicles were most likely involved in the shooting, with suspects firing shots from both, Abetkov said.

Anyone with information is encouraged to contact Detective Wentz at (510) 621-1259. For the anonymous tip line, call (925) 232-TIPS (8477).
