The suspect in a shooting on Groom Drive in the Hilltop area earlier this year was arrested following an armed robbery of a bank in San Rafael on Tuesday, police said.

John Williams, 36, was taken into custody about 11 a.m. at the San Rafael Transit Center, shortly after the Bank of Marin on Fourth Street was robbed at gunpoint. He was found in possession of a loaded gun.

Williams was also wanted in connection with the attempted homicide on April 17 in the 3000 block of Groom Drive, Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said. Williams allegedly shot and critically injured a man he knew in the middle of the afternoon, but a motive remains unclear, Abetkov said. The victim has since recovered, she added.

A Richmond police detective positively identified Williams and subsequently obtained a warrant for his arrest on suspicion of attempted murder.
