Emergency road repair just west of the Richmond-San Rafael Bridge caused a traffic backup in the westbound direction for much of the day Monday, according to Bay City News.

The westbound lanes were closed about 9:30 a.m., with traffic detouring around the shoulder, and were not expected to clear until about 5 p.m., crews said.

The repairs stem from a diesel fuel spill by a privately-owned truck on May 22. Despite attempts at the time of the spill to clean the fuel, some remained and, with help from the warm weather, was beginning to degrade the roadway, officials said.
