The knives are certain to come out later this month at Kitchen@812’s Culinary Clash, the popular cook-off involving four local chefs, but the goal is to cut a check for a good cause.

On Wednesday, Kitchen@812, the nonprofit that helps budding “food-preneurs” launch their businesses, put out a statement reminding the community that its annual fundraiser will take place at 6 p.m. May 20 in its commercial kitchen at 812 San Pablo Ave in Pinole.

Local foodies are encouraged to purchase tickets ($30 online, $40 at door) for the fundraiser that supports the nonprofit’s business incubator program.

Attendees will enjoy a few rounds of tasting before watching four talented chefs and their sponsor teams battle it out for the title. The chefs include Mike Vizcarra of Tasty Zombies, Victor Shepherd of SS Red Oak Victory, Carla Gerner of El Cerrito Natural Grocery and Nathan Trivers of Up & Under Pub & Grill.

The teams will have to transform a box containing secret ingredients into a winning dish in just 45 minutes.

All eyes will again be on Chef Vizcarra, who with Team PG&E has won all three previous clashes.

Sponsors along with PG&E who will have participating members on the teams include Chevron, Mechanics Bank, The California Endowment and Wells Fargo.

In addition to live music, Trumor Pils Brewery, Lagunitas Brewing Company, Drake’s Brewing Company and R&B Cellars will offer beer and wine tastings.
