Black high school seniors from Richmond who plan to attend college have an opportunity to earn a $250 scholarship toward their education by writing an essay, according to community advocate Rodney Alamo Brown.

This week, Alamo Consulting Group and Simply Dre Productions announced a collaboration to offer one scholarship to a black high school senior from the city. The senior must be planning to enroll full-time at an accredited college or university and have a minimum 2.5 GPA. The essay must be about the teen’s experiences growing up in Richmond.

Deadline is June 10. Essays should be emailed to The winner will be announced July 4.
