In this competition, the champions win by a hair.

This week, the Pinole-based Western Barber Conference announced it will be holding the Catch the Fade Barber Battle, a one-on-one barber competition on July 12 at the Hilltop Courtyard Marriott in Richmond, 3150 Garrity Way.

The third running of the battle will occur in conjunction with a barbering expo, and organizers are inviting the general public, not just barbers, to attend. The event runs from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.

“We are expecting barbers and vendors from all over the country to attend,” said Robert Boyd of Western Barber Conference.

For barbers who want to compete, note that you must sign up prior to the event. To pre-register or to purchase tickets to the event, visit House of Blends Barber Club in Pinole or go online here.

Admission to the battle is $30.

A “weigh-in” pre-competition event will be held at House of Blends Barber Club, 1556 Fitzgerald Drive in Pinole at 8 p.m. Saturday, July 11. Following the following day’s competition, an awards dinner will be held at Chevy’s Fresh Mex at 3101 Garrity Way in Richmond at 7 p.m.

The Western Barber Conference was formed to bring barbering and overall hair community together to showcase the skills of talented professionals, said Boyd.

“We have traveled all over the country attending beauty and hair expos making great connections,” Boyd said. “It will be an exciting event, with giveaways of hair product, grooming products etc.”
