Richmond teens seeking careers as firefighter, EMT should apply for youth academy

The Richmond Fire Department released a statement Tuesday night encouraging local high school students to join the Richmond Youth Academy, which can help prepare them for such careers as a firefighter, emergency medical technician, paramedic, nurse and public safety dispatcher.

The youth academy is a mentorship and development program for Richmond residents ages 14 through 18. Academic achievement, community service and self-discipline are stressed as part of the program, according to the Fire Department.

As  a  cadet  in the Richmond  Youth  Academy,  teens will participate  in trainings,  meetings,  drills, fundraising  events,  and  fire  station  projects. Youth wishing to apply should visit the Richmond Youth Academy website here.
