WCCUSD to honor proficient black students at Craneway Pavilion ceremony Tuesday

Two days left to apply for Chevron Somos Network college scholarships

Nearly 400 black high school students from the West Contra Costa Unified School District (WCCUSD) are set to be recognized Tuesday at the Rising Scholars’ ceremony at Craneway Pavilion.

The ceremony, which runs from 6:30 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the Pavilion located at 1414 Harbour Way South, honors  students who have demonstrated growth toward academic excellence, according to WCCUSD.

Those who earned at least a 3.0 GPA with a ‘C’ or better in all academic subjects, scored above the district average on certain assessments and/or passed the state exit exam will receive Students of Honor awards. Those who have met the same criteria but scored at least a 2.5 GPA will receive Aspiring Student certificates.
