In celebration of National Bike Month, bicycle-related events will be held Thursday and May 20 in Richmond.
On Thursday, Richmond is holding its Bike-to-Work Day event where cycling commuters can access four Energizer Stations around the city. The stations will provide cycling commuters with refreshments and a Bike to Work Day bag with goodies. They open from 7 a.m. to 9 a.m. along key bicycle routes: Richmond BART, Macdonald Ave & San Pablo Ave, Richmond Greenway (Ohio Ave & Harbour Way), Marina Bay Park (along the Bay Trail).
The stations were made possible through a collaboration between the city, Bike East Bay, 511 Contra Costa, Rich City Rides, Richmond BPAC and Sunpower.
On May 20, join a mass ride through Richmond’s streets to honor people who have been injured or hurt while biking. The event, Ride of Silence 2015, begins at 5 p.m. at 450 Civic Center Plaza.
The events are meant to encourage cycling to work when possible in order to reduce roadway congestion and tap the health benefits.
