Golden State Warriors success leads to flurry of tribute songs from Bay Area artists

The biggest celebrity to drop a tribute song for the Golden State Warriors’ magical playoff run and season is Vallejo’s E-40, but several other artists, including two Richmond rappers, have put out tracks honoring their beloved team.

E-40 (pictured above) put out a Warriors version of his 2014 song, “Choices (Yup),” that is getting a ton of play:

Here’s a tribute song called Dub Nation (Locked N’ Loaded) from Richmond artist Rich Cole.

Another Richmond artist, Ricky Antonio, honored recently-crowned MVP Steph Curry with this freestyle track:

And here’s a tribute called “Splash” from Bay Area artists Ron Lennon and Jeremy Wells.

Will any of these tributes, even E-40’s, stand the test of time? It’s far too soon to tell. But one thing’s for sure, the Warriors players will not be able to peg O.T. Genasis’ popular song, “CoCo,” as their track of the season (at least not publicly). Earlier this year, the Warriors’ Marreese Speights posted videos of the team singing along to the song on the plane trip home after wins. The posting was quickly shut down by the team, however, as the song is about a love of cocaine.
