San Pablo: New EMS unit at Fire Station 70 to fill

A new Emergency Medical Services (EMS) unit is being deployed in San Pablo following a joint agreement between the city and the Contra Costa County Fire Protection District earlier this year.

The EMS unit, funded through Measure K, the sales tax measure that voters passed in June, will fill a “critical need” in the city and surrounding county communities, particularly after the closure of Doctors Medical Center on April 21, according to city officials.

The squad will add an EMT and paramedic at Fire Station 70 at 13928 San Pablo Ave. Nearly 82-percent of all service calls received by the station are for medical emergencies, a city statement said.

fire.5-1In January, the San Pablo City Council approved spending $400,000 in start-up costs for the acquisition, equipment, and prepping Station 70 for the squad unit.

“With the deployment of the new EMS Squad, basic and advanced life support capabilties provided by ConFire personnel at Fire Station No. 70 will be greatly enhanced, helping to meet increased service level demands in San Pablo and surrounding service areas.” said San Pablo City Manager Matt Rodriguez.
