As was widely reported last month, Doctors Medical Center will no longer accept patients starting Tuesday, April 21, after the West Contra Costa Healthcare District Board of Directors voted to close the San Pablo safety-net hospital due to an $18 million annual deficit.

Since that decision, the healthcare district has provided information on where patients should seek care starting April 21:

First, anyone with life-threatening or psychiatric emergencies should call 911.

Those requiring immediate care (walk-ins, same-day appointments) but are not having a medical emergency can access the Lifelong Urgent Care Center, which is located across the street from DMC at 2023 Vale Rd in San Pablo.

Patients can walk in or call for an appointment at Lifelong Urgent Care Center starting April 20. The center will open seven days a week from noon to 8 p.m., and its main phone number is (510) 231-9800.

If you’re nervous about a medical condition and want to know whether you need to visit an emergency room or urgent care clinic, you can call an advice nurse with Contra Costa Health Services. The 24-hour, seven days a week nurse line can be reached at (877) 661-6230 (Option 1).
