Local residents are encouraged to help Davis Chapel CME Church in North Richmond beautify its community garden on Saturday, May 23, and possibly donate soil, drought-resistant plants and decorative stones toward the project.

The community will be asked to fill planter boxes and plant flowers for the church’s meditation garden from 8 a.m. to noon at the corner of Chelsea Ave and Truman Street. Educational workshops on water management and recycling will also be held.

Urban Tilth, the nonprofit that runs school and community gardens around Richmond, will give away free plants to the community at the event. Urban Tilth partnered with the church in recent years to revitalize the church garden.
