A motorcyclist was killed after falling into the path of a big rig and SUV Wednesday afternoon.

The crash scene blocked multiple westbound lanes on I-80 in Richmond east of Central Avenue, according to the California Highway Patrol, which released photos from the emergency response.

The collision was reported at 2:55 p.m. The motorcyclist was somehow ejected from his bike and fell into parallel lanes of traffic, where he was struck by either the SUV, big rig, or both, and died at the scene, Bay City News reported. The big rig overturned after swerving to avoid the rider.

Motorists were advised on 511.org to expect delays and to avoid the area. Two lanes were expected to remain closed until 6 p.m., CHP said.
