The woman who died while in custody at the West County Detention Facility in Richmond on Saturday has been identified as 51-year-old Antioch resident Kristen Hamilton.

Medical staff visiting the facility on a routine medical call were speaking to Hamilton when she became unresponsive,  sheriff’s officials told Bay City News (via Patch) and the Bay Area News Group. They attempted to revive her but she was pronounced dead at the scene, they said.

Investigators are awaiting the results of toxicology reports to determine how Hamilton died, but an autopsy done Monday suggests natural causes, according to the report by Bay City News. Shortly after Hamilton arrived at the Richmond facility, jail staff became aware she was suffering from prior medical conditions, the report added.

Hamilton had surrendered at the jail on April 21 for several outstanding warrants involving allegations of drugs and stolen property possession and probation violation, according to the reports.
