A couple of West Contra Costa Unified School District alums are in Cleveland to be officially crowned as rock legends on Saturday, and they proved Thursday they haven’t lost a step.

Green Day, whose singer Billie Joe Armstrong and bass player Mike Dirnt attended Pinole Valley High School, will formerly be inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame at the 30th annual ceremony.

On Thursday, the band returned to the stage for the first time in more than a year at the House Of Blues in Cleveland. The performance received rave reviews. Here are nearly 30-minutes of highlights shot by a fan at the show:

Green Day joins an induction class this year that includes Ringo Starr, Lou Reed, Stevie Ray Vaughan & Double Trouble, The “5” Royales, The Paul Butterfield Blues Band, Joan Jett & the Blackhearts, and Bill Withers.

Armstrong and Dirnt became pals at Carquinez Middle School before forming the group “Sweet Children” at Pinole Valley High. The group’s name would eventually change to Green Day, as explained in this thorough story in Diablo Magazine about the band’s origins and career.
