68-year-old Richmond resident wins silver in U.S. Figure Skating Adult Nationals

Janice Cook, 68, of Richmond, won two silver medals at the U.S. Figure Skating Adult Championships in Salt Lake City on Wednesday.

Cook is among the nation’s best in her classes despite skating with a replacement knee and a replacement hip.

Her silver medals were earned in the Ladies 5 Free Skate and Masters Dramatic Showcase divisions. She had also medaled at the 2004 championships in Lake Placed, NY.

Skaters qualify for the championship by placing in the top four at one of three sectional championships held earlier this year, according to organizers.

The championships are being hosted by Salt Lake Figure Skating and continue through Saturday, with nearly 400 skaters competing in more than 100 events.

Cook has lived in Richmond for 25 years.
