Three El Cerrito High School students were arrested Monday morning on charges of shooting a 19-year-old man outside the school on Friday afternoon, police said.

Two Richmond juveniles ages 16 and 17 and a 16-year-old from El Cerrito were taken into custody without incident on the campus and are being held on charges of attempted murder and conspiracy, police said. Detectives believe the teens were specifically targeting the victim.

Officers responded about 2:45 p.m. to Lincoln and Ashbury avenues, where they found the 19-year-old, who is not a student. He refused medical attention and was taken to the hospital by relatives, police said.

The suspects fled over fences but were identified following a weekend-long investigation.

The incident endangered others. A vehicle owned by a  parent was struck by gunfire as the parent awaited a student. The parent discovered the bullet hole on Saturday.
