Local high school sports fans have much to cheer about after the Salesian girls and El Cerrito boys basketball teams each won their respective North Coast Section championship games on Saturday.

Salesian (28-3) went on a 13-0 run in the first quarter and never looked back, defeating rival St. Mary’s 56-40 at Albany High School to win the NCS Division IV title, according to the Bay Area News Group (BANG). Guard Minyon Moore led the Pride with 13 points, six rebounds, six steals and four assists, while Kian McNair added nine points, four rebounds and three steals.

Meanwhile, the El Cerrito boys basketball team (29-4) topped Montgomery-Santa Rosa 71-57 to win the NCS Division II title. Forward Carlos Johnson had 20 points and senior guard Tyrell Alcorn added 20 to help the Gauchos capture its first section title since 2003, according to the BANG.
