The coach of a new local cheer and dance team is seeking Richmond-area youth to join the program, and is also encouraging donations from community members.

Coach Lorena Smith, also a coach for the Richmond Diamonds, says girls and boys between ages 12 and 17 are invited to join the West Coast Royal Gem team.

“Are you ready to perform in front of hundreds of adoring fans flashing cameras and screaming cheerleaders?” Smith said. “If you have a winner’s spirit, this is the team for you.”

Those interested in signing up should email Coach Lorena at

Also, the team is trying to raise $800 by April 12 for cheer camp. Those wishing to donate toward that effort can visit and search for West Coast Royal Gem.

“Thank you for all your support,” Smith said.
