SMART cars are not only a good way to find parking, they are also the intelligent choice for parking enforcement, according to the Richmond Police Department.

Richmond residents might soon see parking enforcement officers driving one of the extra-compact electric vehicles while handing out tickets around the city.

RPD is requesting that City Council on Tuesday approve the purchase of a SMART electric vehicle from Beshoff Motorcars Mercedes Benz for an amount not to exceed $25,720.

The car would replace a retired parking enforcement vehicle.

“Purchasing a SMART electric vehicle would be an environmentally conscious decision,” police stated in the City Council agenda documents for Tuesday’s meeting.
