A 74-year-old man died after being struck by a car on the 3500 block of Rheem Avenue in Richmond Sunday night, police said.

The man, identified as Richmond resident Richard Miner, suffered critical head injuries in the collision that occurred about 8 p.m., police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

Police received notice the man had succumbed to his injuries about 5 a.m. Monday.

The driver of the car involved in the collision remained at the scene, cooperated with police and was not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol, Abetkov said.

The pedestrian had been walking outside of a crosswalk when he was struck, the sergeant said.

Witnesses to the collision are asked to contact the Richmond Police Department’s traffic division at (510) 621-1578.
