A new permanent playground is coming to the Hilltop Family YMCA next month, and all that is needed now are volunteers and some loaned tools to help build it.
The nonprofit For Richmond tipped us off Tuesday to this opportunity from April 21 to April 23 for community members to help provide another place for local youth to play and learn at the Hilltop Y, located at 4300 Lakeside Drive.
During those days, volunteers are needed to help install the playground, which was funded with help from KaBOOM! and Blue Shield of California.
After the playground is built, the whole community will be invited to a “Healthy Kids Day Festival” on Sunday, April 26 to celebrate its grand opening from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
“Our new playground is an exciting project that requires a lot of help from our community,” said Sarah E. M. Sutton, branch operations director at the Hilltop Family YMCA. “We need volunteers on the following days to help build the playground. All skill levels are needed.”
Sign up to volunteer by contacting Mihiro Yanai, recruitment committee co-chair, at firstname.lastname@example.org. For more info call 510-222-9622 or click here. Anyone with tools to loan for the project is asked to contact Jay Tucker, construction committee co-chair, at email@example.com.
Here’s the work schedule from April 21-23:
- Prep Day 1, Tuesday, April 21, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. The Hilltop Family YMCA needs 20 volunteers for hard labor that will help prepare the playground site that day. The organization requests that those volunteers who help on Prep Day 1 also plan to be there on Build Day (see below).
- Prep Day 2, Wednesday, April 22, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. This is a tentative day, depending on whether or not there is leftover work to be completed from Prep Day 1. If so, organizers estimate that 15 volunteers will be needed to help out.
- Build Day, Thursday, April 23, 2015, from 8 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. All skill levels are welcome as the playground itself will be put together. It will be a fun community workday, full of excitement, music, and fellowship as everyone pitches in to build the playground.
