Richmond police are searching for suspects in connection with the shooting death Friday night of local resident Robert Griffin Jr.

Officers responded to a ShotSpotter activation in the 3900 block of Potrero Avenue, near the Monterey Pine Apartments, about 10:20 p.m.

They found Griffin with several gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

A motive for the shooting is not known.

Police have recently increased patrols at Monterey Pine due to a rash of gun violence in the city that may be connected to individuals who are associated with the housing complex. The violence, police believe, is related to the killing on March 1 of Keven Hall, 20, of Richmond.

Hall’s funeral was scheduled to take place Saturday. It is unknown whether the homicides are related.

Anyone with information is encouraged to call homicide Det. C. Decious at (510) 621-1747.

  2. My condolences to the families of these young men. This was the same apartment complex were my daughter inlaw the mother of my first granddaughter and grandson was murdered in the parking lot during a shooting out. There was another person who was also killed in that shootout in the parking area. Its just very sad that our families are subjected to this type of violence. Its my prayer that we can find a way to rises above the perils of this madness and God will protect us against this plague of gun violence.
