A trio of suspected robbers led Richmond police on a pursuit across the Bay Bridge early Tuesday that ended with their arrests in San Francisco, police said.
The suspects, between ages 17 and 22, carried out a gunpoint robbery about 1:45 a.m. in the 3000 block of Shane Drive, Richmond police Sgt Nicole Abetkov said. Cash, jewelry and other items were taken from the victim, who said the crooks fled in a van.
An El Cerrito police officer driving on Interstate 80 near Potrero Avenue spotted the van and began following it, Abetkov said. Eventually Richmond police caught up and took over. The van failed to yield to officers, and the pursuit continued across the Bay Bridge before the van was finally stopped at the Fremont exit in San Francisco.
The suspects were arrested without incident, positively identified by the victim, and officers found the victim’s belongings in the van, Abetkov said.
A bolt-action short-barreled rifle believed to have been used during the robbery was also seized.
Abetkov did not immediately know where the 17, 18 and 22 year old suspects were from, but said none are Richmond residents.
“The juvenile suspect was already on active felony probation out of Alameda County,” Abetkov said.
