Richmond Annex Neighborhood Council appeals affordable housing project approval
Location of site of proposed affordable housing development.

The Richmond Annex Neighborhood Council is appealing the Planning Commission’s conditional approval of a 155-unit, five-story affordable housing project at 5620 Central Ave., citing a lack of analysis regarding potential flooding in the area and impacts to traffic and air quality, according to the Contra Costa Times.

The development on a 2.58-acre between Belmont Avenue and San Mateo Street, according to the appeal, will also require street widening and its height of 66 feet raises concern, as building heights in the area range from 12 to 30 feet.

The appeal also calls for an environmental impact report for the project, the Times added.
