As expected, the group tasked with revitalizing downtown Richmond launched an online fundraising campaign Tuesday aimed at preparing a space for a new restaurant.

The Richmond Main Street Initiative (RMSI) wants to fill part of the Richmond BART parking garage retail space at Macdonald Avenue and 16th Street with soul food restaurant Home of Chicken and Waffles. For that to happen, 10,000-square-foot space will need to be built out with electrical and plumbing, as it has never been used, said Amanda Elliot, RMSI executive director.

RMSI hopes to raise $75,000 toward that effort through an Indegogo campaign (visit campaign here).

On Wednesday, residents and businesses have a chance to offer feedback about the online campaign and other matters at RMSI’s Annual Stakeholders’ meeting. The meeting runs from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at the BBK Center for Health & Healing at 310 9th Street (at Macdonald).
