A fire that destroyed a North Richmond home Monday also took the lives of five dogs who were in kennels, according to the Contra Costa Times.

The fire was reported at a home in the 500 block of Grove Street just before 7 p.m. Monday, a fire official told the newspaper. Three displaced residents were not in the home at the time of the fire, which engulfed the residence, partly spread to another residence and torched electrical lines, the official said.

The dogs were removed by Contra Costa County Animal Control and their breed was not provided, the Times said.

A cause for the fire has not been reported.
