Richmond youth interested in a summer job can still apply for Richmond YouthWORK’s annual Summer Youth Employment Program (SYEP) until Tuesday, March 3.

Now in its 11th year, SYEP is the City of Richmond’s acclaimed summer jobs program that provides Richmond youth, ages 15 to 21, with up to 100 hours of career-path work experience over the summer months.

Each summer the program places hundreds of Richmond youth in meaningful local jobs in child care, education recreation, urban farming, health, banking and more.

Participants receive pre-employment training, help with financial literacy and management, essential work skills and resume tips. Following pre-employment workshops, participants will have the opportunity to log paid hours at a worksite that reflects their desires, interests and abilities.

In the last decade, more than 4,000 youth have participated in the program, 90 percent of which have come from households earning less than $30,000 a year.

The program is open only Richmond residents.

Applications are still available at the YouthWORKS office, 2705 Macdonald Avenue (corner of 27th and Macdonald Avenue) from 11 a.m. until 5 p.m. until March 3. Participants will be selected by lottery.
