Local nonprofit Save Mount Diablo is raising awareness for ongoing Mount Diablo conservation efforts with a photo contest geared toward students.

Youth in grades K-12 are invited to submit photos of themselves in the Mount Diablo wildlife preserve and enter the chance to win not only a $1,000 Apple gift card but also publication in the Diablo Magazine.

Photos will be judged by last year’s grand prize winner, Allen Abbott, local professional photographers and the Save Mount Diablo’s Board of Directors.

The contest, now in its third year, is part of the organization’s creative effort to introduce Mount Diablo and its conservation needs to this region’s next generation.

“This contest is a great way for us to connect with students and for students to connect with the Diablo wilderness,” said Save Mount Diablo communications manager Beryl Anderson. “After all, students are the future generations we are saving these lands for and who we hope will continue to save Mount Diablo.”

All photographs should be submitted no later than April 15. Winners will be announced May 2.
