Richmond police pursuit begins after victim sees license plate on another vehicle

A police pursuit in Richmond that resulted in a crash and the arrest of two people Saturday began over a stolen license plate, police told Bay City News.

The incident unfolded about 1:30 p.m. in the area of West Cutting and Canal boulevards, when police met with the victim of the stolen license plate, police Lt. Andre Hill told the newswire. During that conversation, the victim saw a white Ford Ranger pass by and hollered, “Hey, that’s my plate!”

Her license plate was on the back of the Ranger, Hill said.

The officer began pursuing the vehicle, which failed to yield and headed toward I-580. The suspect vehicle struck a car near the on-ramp at Canal Boulevard, but the pursuit didn’t end there, as the suspects continued eastbound on I-580 before losing control near Regatta Boulevard, where they crashed into the center median.

The driver was airlifted to John Muir Medical Center with moderate to major injuries and the passenger suffered minor injuries and was brought to a local hospital, Bay City News said. A firearm and narcotics were found in the vehicle, Hill said.

Their identities were not immediately available.
