Richmond police are searching for an armed burglar who invaded a home in the North & East neighborhood on Wednesday.
The incident occurred about 6:40 a.m. in the 2600 block of Clinton Avenue, when the suspect entered the home through an open window and was confronted by a resident, police said.
The suspect brandished a weapon and stole items before fleeing. Police are searching for the man, described as in his 20s wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and light blue jeans.
“We are actively using our resources at the department to investigate this case,” the department said in a Facebook post.
Police also offered these tips to prevent such crimes:
Please alert your neighbors and keep your windows and doors locked at night. If you have an alarm and can arm it at night, we would recommend you do so as an added security measure. While a small window may not seem like a feasible point of entry, it can certainly become a means for an intruder to make their way into a home. In addition, if you have an alarm, use it. You can arm it on instant when you’re home alone.
While crimes of this nature are not that common they are alarming and serious. Please report any suspicious activity to us so we can intervene and investigate.
