A Richmond teenager who was reported missing after last being seen New Year’s Day has been found, police said Tuesday.

Now police are working to see if at least one male suspect had been holding her against her will.

Belinda Jean Carson, 16, was found about 11 p.m. Monday in San Francisco after being reported missing by family on Sunday, spokesperson Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

Carson has no history of running away from home. Family received somewhat cryptic Facebook messages from Carson indicating she was scared and trying to go home, police said.

A friend of Carson claims she overheard a phone conversation between Carson and an unknown male on New Year’s Eve, possibly a 21-year-old man, police said. It is unclear if that caller was involved in Carson’s disappearance, but police are looking into the possibility that the male caller and possibly other suspects abducted the teen.

The case is being handled by the San Francisco Police Department.
