UPDATE: Belinda Jean Carson has been found. Click here for more information.
A 16-year-old Richmond girl has been missing since New Year’s Day and is possibly being held against her will, police said Monday.
Police and family are searching for Belinda Jean Carson, who reportedly has no history of running away from home. Carson was last seen at her home about 5:30 p.m. Thursday, Richmond police Lt. Joey Schlemmer said. Her family became increasingly concerned after receiving “somewhat cryptic Facebook messages” from Carson indicating she was scared and trying to go home, Schlemmer said.
Investigators are looking into a friend of Carson’s claim that she overheard a phone conversation between Carson and an unknown male on New Year’s Eve.
“The friend was present while Belinda was on the phone with an unknown male, who the friend said during the conversation identified himself as being 21,” Schlemmer said.
The friend did not know the male caller’s name.
Carson is described as 5 feet 3 inches tall, 165 pounds with black hair, brown eyes and a nose piercing, Schlemmer said.
Anyone with information about her whereabouts is encouraged to call Sgt. Robert Gray with the Police Department’s youth services division at (510) 621-1585.
