A man was shot during an attempted robbery in Richmond Thursday night as he was coming home from church, police said.

Officers responded to South 41st Street and Florida Avenue about 9 p.m. and found the victim with gunshot wounds to his back and chest, police spokesperson Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said Friday. The man was transported to a trauma center and is expected to survive.

The victim told police he was arriving home from church when the suspect demanded money. He said he was shot when he ran.

The suspect, described as a man between 18 and 20 years old, was last seen running north on South 41st Street, Abetkov said.

No arrests have been made.
