A Richmond homeowner apparently shot a suspected burglar Saturday night, police said.

Police responded to reports of shots fired in the area of 43rd Street and Roosevelt Avenue about 6:15 p.m., Richmond police Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

Officers found a man who had been shot in his upper torso in critical condition. The man, who hasn’t been identified,was transported to John Muir Hospital, Abetkov reported.

Police believe the man was shot while in the process of robbing the homeowner’s house or yard.

Investigators are searching for a second possible burglar involved in the incident, Abetkov said.

The incident remains under investigation.
