Officials with the West Contra Costa Unified District (WCCUSD) are rightly proud of Green Day’s induction Tuesday into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

After all, singer Billie Joe Armstrong and bass player Mike Dirnt attended Pinole Valley High School, where they started the band 25 years ago.

It is not, however, the first time WCCUSD alums have earned this honor.

John Fogerty, Stu Cook and Doug Clifford, who attended El Cerrito High in the early 1960s, were founding members of Creedence Clearwater Revival, which was inducted into the hall in 1993, the district noted.

Additionally, Metallica’s lead guitarist Kirk Hammett attended De Anza High. Metallica was inducted in 2009.
