Along with traffic calming measures, the North & East neighborhood is about to get a dozen new trees.
Now all is needed are volunteers to help plant them.
On Dec. 14, the community organization Richmond Trees will hold a planting event that meets at 8:30 a.m. at 3007 Maricopa Ave.
“We lost some trees during the frost last year, and this event will focus on replacing those trees,” according to Richmond Trees.
The group also points out that tree-planting events are a great way to get acquainted with neighbors and give back to the community.
“Cities with a healthy urban forest have happier and healthier residents,” Richmond Trees said.
Snacks and water will be provided. Volunteers are encouraged to bring gloves and shovels if they have them.
Richmond Trees will be holding more planting events Jan. 11 and Feb. 15. Last month, we learned Richmond will benefit from a grant that will purchase 25 new trees and fund a program employing at-risk youth to plant and care for them.
