Authorities are investigating what led to the death of a man who was found with a head injury near the Mechanics Bank at 3170 Hilltop Mall Road Tuesday night.

Officers were called to the bank site at 9:22 p.m. on a report that a man was extremely intoxicated.

The 56-year-old man, identified as Stephen Uhrick of Newark, Delaware, was found unresponsive and paramedics pronounced him dead at the scene, police spokesperson Sgt. Nicole Abetkov said.

A preliminary investigation did not suggest foul play had occurred, Abetkov said. He may have fallen and hit his head, but an autopsy scheduled Thursday will hopefully explain what occurred, she said.

  1. I think that the above article deserves a follow up to the cause of death of Mr. Uhrick. It is pure speculation about him being extremely intoxicated and that statement should never have been published. People are always to quick to judge other people. The injury to his head or intoxication had no role in the death of Mr. Uhrick. So if you check in to the cause of death hopefully law enforcement or journalist won’t be in such a hast in the future to label and incident like this!! Neither of you have any type of medical back ground to call the shots so please take in consideration the family that is left behind that is in mourning before statements of such are made, after all they will always be there, they can not be whited out. Therefore there should be a retraction to statement in this article.
I wonder if due to the statement of ” seem to be extremely intoxicated” had an impact on whether Mr. Uhrick received prompt attention and the best care that could possibly been given to him. I hope in the future that the ONLY STATEMENT made is that an autopsy will determine the cause of death.
Everybody wants the story and their 5 minutes of fame.

  2. I totally agree with the above comment. Stephen Uhrick was not intoxicated, in fact, the blood test that came back from the autopsy stated that there was little to no alcohol in his system. I would appreciate if you had your facts straight before you decide to post a story. This is a disgrace to read over this article, how could you be so careless? He has a family that he left behind, that are no without a father, husband, grandfather, etc. There needs to be an accurate update by someone who has a medical background, because you clearly, do not know what you’re talking about.
